Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the direct impact of COVID-19 on individual mental health. The specific purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 confirmed experience on suicidal ideation.

Methods: In this study, the raw data of 2021 ¡®Mental Health Survey Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic¡¯ was used(n=2,000). The dependent variable was ¡®suicidal ideation¡¯, and the independent variables were ¡®experience of being diagnosed with COVID-19¡¯, demographic factors (gender, age, etc.), socioeconomic factors (marital status, income level, etc.), and COVID-19 related factors. To examine factors affecting suicidal ideation, logistic regression was used.

Results: As a result of logistic regression, it was found that the risk of suicidal ideation increased more than four times in the group with confirmed COVID-19 experience(OR: 4.05, 95% CI: 1.83-8.96). And the risk of suicidal ideation was higher for women compared to men, for single/divorced/widowed groups compared to married groups, for groups with low income levels, for those whose economic situation worsened during the pandemic, and for those with high stress due to COVID-19.

Conclusion: This is the first study in Korea to empirically analyze an individual¡¯s mental health risk factor, including ¡®experience of being diagnosed with COVID-19¡¯, which is a direct effect of COVID-19. The experience of being diagnosed with COVID-19 increased the risk of suicidal ideation by more than four times. This result can be used as basic data for establishing policies to protect people's mental health when another infectious disease disaster occurs in the future.
